Our Milk Goats

Grade “A” Raw Goat Milk

The main focus of Homestead Farms is our raw, all natural, grade ‘A’ goat milk. We sell gallons for $13 and half gallons for $7 in our retail store during our regular hours. Because our milk is seasonal due to breeding we suggest you call (817)966-0482 or e-mail, sfarris@homestead-farms.net for availability.

Goat milk has a different chemical makeup compared to cow milk and specialists are still discovering more nutritional benefits. Goat milk can be vital for infants, children, many people with cow milk allergies and even some cases of lactose intolerance due to its superior digestibility.

Our milk is Grade “A” Raw meaning that our milking facilities are inspected by a government official once a month and a sample of our milk is routinely tested for indicators of infection in the animal, cleanliness (somatic cell count, standard plate count, and coliform count) and pathogen growth in the milk (E. coli and Salmonella). Our herd is also tested annually for any tuberculosis and brucellosis.

Goat milk can be referred to as having a strong, “goaty” and “musky” flavor. There are many factors that influence milk’s taste. Because we only provide the freshest milk, we raise Nubian goats that produce a high quality milk rather than high quantity, and we highly regulate our goat’s antibiotic and hormone free diet, our milk is compatible to whole cow milk in taste.

Our fresh milk lasts 2 weeks from the date it is bottled as long as it is kept below 40 degrees F. The longer goat milk sits the stronger the “goaty” flavor will get therefore some customers prefer to drink it within a week, while some don’t mind.

Seasonal Produce

The produce sold in our store is a combination of fruits and vegetables grown by the hands of Homestead Farms and by neighboring farms. Our goal is to grow everything ourselves, and we hope over the next few years our produce selection will expand. We believe in the old-fashioned and all natural way therefore, the fruits and vegetables grown by Homestead Farms are pesticide and chemical free. We also do our best to find other farmers who provide extra produce to our store with the same high standards.
